Racing with yourself (late post)

“Every race is a unique race”

That’s what my running buddy like to say. Every race has its own story, because no matter how prepared we are, there are some dynamic factors which contributes to it. Like weather, what we ate the day before, our tummy condition and so on.

Since early this year, I haven’t been training or running longer than 5km. Ya ya ya.. maybe you think it’s another old story, no training, just go for it story. But since I moved to a new role, my life simply evolves around work.

Last Sunday run was a new situation to me, as I just came back from London on Sat mid day. I did take a 3h-ish nap and 3h-ish sleep before I woke up at 2am, since the bus was scheduled to leave 330am.

TL;DR, I posted in my insta.

And below is what happened to my mind

I don’t know if it’s half jet lag which contributed to the equation; I was able to wake up.

I haven’t been changing my running playlist since 2 years ago. Some songs which gave me impression this time were

⁃ ikuze, Pokémon

⁃ Stupid liar, Big Bang

⁃ Sobakasu (omoi de ha, itsumo kirei da kedo)

Some parts of the lyrics just resonates what I have in mind lately.

I feel like a newbie runner again last week, although I had ran 21km for few times since 3-4 years ago.

I told myself to have fun, don’t worry about the time and listen to the body. Because we don’t want to have silly unnecessary injury if you pushed yourself too hard.

I didn’t bring my usual gels, because I haven’t been restocking it since last year. I have other energy source which wasn’t my preferred drink usually.

Having the drink station to be spaced out every 2km-ish helped me to focus to get from one to another. And without realizing, I completed it.

Overall it’s a good run to open this year races. Few friends said the route was bad and so on, but generally was good.
