Last week, I was reminded about few things that I have been trying to avoid to do but it’s getting out of hand.
House cleaning.
The meme below represents me regarding chore
But one thing I also notice is, it’s actually feels good when you completed it. (Strangely I get the same feeling after completing a run too)
The first few minutes, my heart will say that the conditions are not ideal, like need to have breakfast first, need to do this first, or even like, I don’t have the mood yet. 🙄
But thanks to my brain, who just execute, after doing a few things, it started to operate without making too much comments. And eventually it’s getting faster. More operational.
By definition, chore is a tedious but necessary task.
So, it happens to me at work too.
Sometimes it’s too daunting to do it, because I don’t know what’s the better way to do it. Trained to be a programmer in my uni days, I tend to think how to reduce manual effort and how to do it more effective or faster.
I’m getting better and faster in making decision when I should stop to look for that solution and just do it in not so effective way or manual effort.
Sometimes it’s not only about the method, but also like need more time to do some research or more time to debug or investigate the issue.
However sometimes other people (or even ourselves) are impatient. We want to have good products in short time. So, quality might be compromised.
Again, me being perfectionist, I used to not able to accept it if you just do it half heartedly.
But I think, do your best at that given time, even if the result is not good enough whether it’s to your own standard or other people standard, so be it.
Do it again in next iteration. Do it better.
