This week story is inspired by the conversation in my office. About choosing a plug-in A or B.
Globally, we are using plug-in A, however the feedback from one of the users, A is not great and we should move to B because when he worked with B, it’s better overall.
I shared the risk of switching to B that the templates we are using has been deeply integrated with plug-in A. And when there is a new upgrades to the global template, the exercise of removing plug-in A integration will need to be repeated.
One of his statements was since we haven’t use A, might as well as use B. And he defined as workaround. I challenged him by making fair judgment to both of the sides by requesting comparison table. As he denied it when I told him that he’s been leaning to B anyway.
And we have a conversation about workaround. According to wiki
A workaround is a bypass of a recognized problem or limitation in a system. A workaround is typically a temporary fix that implies that a genuine solution to the problem is needed. But workarounds are frequently as creative as true solutions, involving outside the box thinking in their creation.
Typically they are considered brittle in that they will not respond well to further pressure from a system beyond the original design. In implementing a workaround it is important to flag the change so as to later implement a proper solution.
I see that workaround means we need to find an alternative approach using A to get what you need than switching to B straightaway.
But it might down to individual interpretation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Usually when it comes to buy something for personal, I’ll just go with my gut feel. Because even though I’m going to come up with score card or analysis table, my heart is already sold to the first thing I’d like to get. As long as $$$ is not an issue.
However, when it relates to other people or for work, we should be impartial to it. And need to consider all factors before deciding.
I believe in 3 factors
We pay for quality and good experience in the end. As there is no free lunch in this world. So better do our best to impartially assessing something.
What do you think?
