The flip side of it

My sensei told us in the class the other day that, try to look for the silver lining behind something. For example, when you’re falling from stairs because you’re missing few steps from the ground, you should say, luckily it’s not from the beginning of the floor. Only half way.

Even if it’s from the beginning of the floor, luckily it’s from there, not from the top of the building.

We were laughing with her example.

When I grew up, I also heard this often. “Untung ya..” (trans: lucky/luckily that …).

And I think this way of thinking helps us to do not fret much when things didn’t go according to plan or our way.

I used to be upset or stress when some incident or misfortune happened to me. But what happened is happened and what’s important is what are we going to do after this. And having that thought, actually helps me to accept its part of the experience and opportunity to learn.

That thinking is a great help at work too, because there are 1001 things which can go wrong when you’re managing project. And as a PM, typically I’ll try to put contingency to possible risks too.

Although if you’re facing series of it can be a downer too.

Do you think this way too?
