I’ve been reading this manga intensively lately because I find it inspiring. It’s been awhile since 弱ペダ and 東京喰種トーキョーグール.
Here are some of my favourites from this manga:
1. Be yourself
To Megumi Tadokoro-“Don’t think of unnecessary things, just make a dish that suits you!”
Megumi is Souma’s classmate, she’s a timid girl and easily panic. During an important match, Megumi who usually depends on Souma panics.
Sometimes we were unsure, for example, how can I complete the project or I don’t have the knowledge for it. Sit down and think what we know, we maybe do not have the best skill, but there is something we can do, for sure.
2. When you fail. Never loses heart.
Yukihira Jouichirou-“People put lid on their hearts, to protect their pride, self-esteem or whatever.”
Jouichiro is Souma’s dad whom he wanted to defeat. They had many battles and Souma lost many times. But he never loses heart, he counts his defeat, acknowledges it, learns from it and move on to be better next time.
That’s how we will excel.
3. Trial and error
To Mimasaka Subaru-“…repeating trial and error and failing many times…it’s that process which makes the dishes shine”
Mimasaka Subaru looks quite scary and intimidating but he has a great skill. Because of his past experience, he took the wrong path.
What Souma told him is very relevant to us when you replace the “dishes” from Souma’s word above. When we failed to get something we want, don’t stop there. Learn from others, learn from your past experience, you’ll get it someday.
4. Think out of the box
There are many events when Souma is creatively solving the problem he is facing.
A theme is just a theme. Understand it, think what can you do and how you can relate to it with your own touch. Then you’ll be fine.
5. Challenge the best
Only by challenging the best, you can climb up.
Do you read Food Wars too? If so, what’s your favourite moment?
from wiki:
Shokugeki no Soma tells the story of a boy named Sōma Yukihira, whose dream is to become a full-time chef in his father’s restaurant and surpass his father’s culinary skills. But just as Sōma graduates from middle school, his father, Jōichirō Yukihira, gets a new job in America and closes his restaurant. However, Sōma’s fighting spirit is rekindled by a challenge from Jōichirō which is to survive in an elite culinary school where only 10% of the students manage to graduate.
