Inspire and inspiration

These are inspirational quotes that I found from a site (which is I forgot ^.^). I hope can inspire you though

The universe is one great kindergarten for man. Everything that exists has brought with it its own peculiar lesson. The mountain teaches stability and grandeur; the ocean immensity and change. Forests, lakes, and rivers, clouds and winds, stars and flowers, stupendous glaciers and crystal snowflakes–every form of animate or inanimate existence, leaves its impress upon the soul of man.
– Orison Swett Marden

What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Some motivational quotes…

If people are coming to work excited . . . if they’re making mistakes freely and fearlessly . . . if they’re having fun . . . if they’re concentrating doing things, rather than preparing reports and going to meetings – then somewhere you have leaders. – Robert Townsend

When he reached the New World, Cortez burned his ships. As a result his crew was well motivated. –
The Hunt For Red October

We know nothing about motivation. All we can do is write books about it. – Peter F. Drucker
Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan, ‘Press on,’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race –
Calvin Coolidge

Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today? – Mary Manin Morrissey author

Nobody is stronger, nobody is weaker than someone who came back. There is nothing you can do to such a person because whatever you could do is less than what has already been done to him. We have already paid the price. –
Elie Wiesel.

My first week in Singapore

I was quite .. a bit hard to find the words but just say that .. have lots of doubts and thoughts in my mind about finding jobs in Singapore. So I will summarize my week in one post :p

Monday,
I was staying at home, while Iwan, Wary and pFreddy were going for work. Felt so strange.
I sent out many applications, tailored my resume, and edited the cover letter.
Waited and waited.
No reply came.

Tuesday,
Still the same…
Surprisingly, in the afternoon, my phone rang. I was called by someone name Jenny from Verztec, asking me whether I will have time for tomorrow’s interview. Yupii!!

Uniquely (my first two nights in) Singapore #2

Saturday, January 31

Didik has something to do around 11, therefore I was waiting for Iwan to wake up so that I can move in to his place and waiting for another friend, Celia to come to Didik’s place. Both of them came as Didik left the house therefore I called Iwan asking him about the time. Therefore, Celia and Wira, her boyfriend were helping me moving from Didik’s to Iwan’s which is still around Bishan but different blocks.

After putting my stuffs, Iwan briefed me for awhile around the house, introduced me to his housemate Wary then we were having our lunch at Bishan North Market. Iwan’s has something to do around 2 pm so he left me with Celia and Wira. Yep! Wira is Celia boyfriend and Wary is Iwan’s housemate. The funny thing is when they were introducing themselves into each other haha 😉

I was told to buy Saturday Strait Times, since quite a lot of job postings. It was quite thick for a dollar paper 😛

Friday, January 30

(continuing my previous post…)
I flew to Singapore using Citilink, subsidiaries of Garuda Indonesia, 1050 AM flight. My friends and I decided to use it since it’s a budget plane. Despite the bad rumors about the lateness of the airlines, it departed and arrived per schedule, 1300 PM. After collecting our luggage which took around 30 mins due to not many lines were opened, we bought the ferry ticket Batam Singapore, SGD16 each of us. Taking taxi to Batam Center port cost us IDR80,000 for both of us.
This is the interesting part..
We didn’t know how to get our paperwork done.. Firstly, we thought that we need to pay for fiscal first, we went to the cashier and told the officer that we would like to pay our fiscal. The officer asked us whether we had checked in, since we hadn’t, we were told to checked in. After following the officer’s instruction, we paid the fiscal, first mission (on ground floor) completed.

Leaving on a jet plane :D

Borrowing the term from a song title, yes, today is my last day in Surabaya because tomorrow, I’ll be flying to Singapore 🙂

This is not my first time fying overseas without my family, but somehow, whenever I remember that I’m leaving them soon, well, I was trully touched and merely just wanted to cry :p

This time, I didn’t have big feast, I just have small farewell lunch with some of my ex colleagues, thanks to my bro (in accidental mode, if you get what I mean). But, it’s quite fun actually, so still thanks to my bro. Before I left to Melbourne, I had a farewell with senior colleagues including my boss. Now, I had it with fellow lecturers. It’s really different.

Do nothing, nothing to do?

If someone asked me what were my activities for the whole day, then I may be confused about the answer. Why?

Starts with my morning routine, woke up, washed my face and my mouth, drank some water, turned on TV, watched “Early Edition” back-to-back with “The Guardian”, had my breakfast. My mom asked me to be alert if there is someone deliver the food, which means I need to pick it and pay it. I was thinking to go swimming too after finishing my series. I bought 10 swimming vouchers quite while ago and I still have 5 vouchers whereas I will leave to Singapore this Friday. I waited the delivery until my series ended, yet the delivery has not come. Since my mom was on her morning meditation, I can’t just leave like that. I decided to wait until the delivery came. That time was already close to 8.30 in the morning. Then somehow, I just told myself not to force to swim since I would be playing badminton in the afternoon with my ex-colleagues anyway. Otherwise I might be exhausted :p

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR 2560!!

新年快樂- shin nien kuai le
恭喜發財- gong xi fa chai
萬事如意- wan shi ru e
新春愉快- shin chun yu kuai
年年有魚- nien nien yo yu

Today is new year celebration according to lunar calendar. My friend from China call it Lunar New Year,  but people in my country (Indonesia) call it Chinese New Year. The reason is it’s associated with Chinese people in Indonesia since long time ago, so we’re kind of used to hear it.

Like in many other places, the new year celebration is filled with family gathering, either eats together or just enjoy time together. Children are pay respect to the elders, then they received 红包, or red packet or red envelope. There are many other ways to celebrate it, depends on the country and the ethnic (More Info)

However, celebration is big cities is somewhat different compared to smaller cities. Or, at least, it has changed from time to time. When I was a kid, we used to visit my uncles and aunties house, to pay them a visit to elder generation is a must since both my mom and my dad are almost the youngest child in their big family. Now, my family only celebrates it with our own, my mom and my dad siblings are celebrated with their family as well, since most of them have became grandparents. They celebrated with their children and grandchildren. We just give them a call or text messages. :p

It’s bit unusual for me though. I can understand to avoid the house cleaning fuss but somehow, it’s a bit quiet. 🙂 Anyway, I guess it’s more important to feel the spirit and the atmosphere. I try not to analyze things like I used to, give myself a break in this new year.

It’s a tradition in m family to eat misua in the morning, its soup contains mushrooms, kincam (kinds of vegetable, I tried to find the English word for it but I haven’t found it 🙁 ) with some oyster sauce. Usually it contains chicken as in the stock too, but my mom is vegetarian so, we only used mushroom stock and vegetarian oyster sauce.

So, once again I wish everyone happy lunar new year!! Happy moo moo as my friend said, since this year is an ox year.
