Which role do you play in MMORPG?

tanking

comes from mmorpgs, where you would have a healer in your party and a person with high defense. (i.e. meat sack-o-shield warriors). the warrior rush an opponent and the monk would do their best to keep the warrior alive with healing and stat bonuses. then, the other members could
a) fight and hit hard
b) run away like scared little girls

so, in essence, it is a big distraction to open opportunites for attack or to run away, like a sacrifice but to keepp it alive.

Example:
Chaos Deity had the best plan to win by tanking the enemy patrol and having his team run away.

I’m a big fan of Fire Emblem series after I had my 3DS and played Fire Emblem Awakening. So, when they announced that they are launching mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes, I downloaded it immediately. Just nice, after I (kinda) finished my Pokémon Sun.

The gameplay is almost the same, I find it they have done a good job in bringing the experience to mobile.

Anyway, playing this game reminds me that in a team, usually there will be someone or who will be the tank of the team so that the rest of the members can attack the enemy safely. And the ace who will safe the day.

In which also co-relates to our situation in life, isn’t it? That sometimes someone (or you) in your team be the tank, so that others can do their work. And the “tank” doesn’t necessarily mean the leader too.

Besides the “tank”, another role I respect is the base defender because without a safe base, the team couldn’t come home. Or has no home.

While some people like more flashy role, but remember, a team needs everyone to function differently, and most of all, appreciate and respect everyone in your team.

My role back then in Ragnarok Online was Acolyte, the healer. That time Monk, fighting healer, wasn’t exist yet. But if if I’m gonna play MMORPG game again, I’ll choose to be a hybrid role like that. Because I like to keep things together.

And I think, it’s quite similar to how I function at work too.

Ah, I must have missed those days hey.. so much thought I gave for this..

So! What role do you play in your team? Is it similar between your game life and your real life?
